the light at the end of the tunnel

Three more days until we move into our house, and here I am writing on the blog instead of packing boxes.
When we moved to Rochester in July 2007, we hadn't sold our house in Kansas City yet, so we moved into an apartment. A two bedroom apartment. With three kids and a large dog. The day after we moved into the apartment, we got a phone call with an offer on our house in Kansas City. Since we didn't know Rochester well, we decided to stay in the apartment for a while, save some money for a down payment & get to know the area a bit. I don't think we expected to be in the apartment as long as we were!
It's been an interesting year.

When the weather is nice, the apartment isn't so small. The outdoors is a great Family Room. The kids like to climb trees, and bike and draw chalk pictures in the parking lot.

We have some great parks within walking distance. The Bear Creek and Zumbro River are close, along with their extensive walking and biking paths. I love that we can walk downtown to the library, the civic center and to the Farmer's Market. Rochester offers a ton of things to do in the summer.

But the winter. This was a long, dark winter for me. In so many ways.

But in dark times you have a decision to make: find the light or stumble around. So, I guess if the dark drives you to the Light, then there's a purpose in it. That's how I feel about our time in the apartment.

  1. In the middle of the tunnel it sounds like you made the decision to find the Light. All those around have been blessed.

    Love you,
    Dad

  2. It's interesting to see how your apt was set up, esp since I basically saw it in both transitions!
I'm so glad for you that you have a bigger and better place for your whole family now!
